Public support for the construction of Belene NPP

RESULTS ANALYSIS

Guaranteeing energy independence (67%) is the main reason why respondents would support the construction of Belene NPP. The second most important reason, among the supporters of Belene is the provision of cheap electricity (52%).

The other support factors are related to the development of the Bulgarian economy, the provision of jobs and that a lot of money has already been invested, and they need to be utilized.

The share of people who do not know or cannot give an answer is high - 30%:

Young people (18-29 years) are less supportive of this project, but also find it most difficult to give an answer or do not know.
On the one hand, this shows that the youngest age group is more indifferent to the debate on this topic, but it can also be explained by the fact that this project was a central topic of public debate more than seven years ago, when this group was hardly particularly interested or sensitive to such topics.
