The procedure for selection of a strategic investor for Belene NPP project was published in May 2019 in the Official Journal of the European Union. The invitation also provides an opportunity to express interest in acquiring a minority stake in the future project company, as well as / or to purchase electricity from the future power plant.

Thirteen candidates applied: 
 

• Seven companies have expressed interest in participating as a strategic investor in the project - the Russian state corporation Rosatom through Atomenergoprom, the Chinese National Nuclear Corporation, the Korean Hydro and Nuclear Corporation, the German-registered Bektron-Liaz-Technical Engineering Company, and NPP consortia Belene NPP and Nuclear Power Plant Belene 2019", and registered in Bulgaria company IPK and UP Ltd.

• The French company Framatome SAS has declared interest in participating in the structuring of the financing of the project for the provision of safety systems, electrical equipment, control systems and others.

• American General Electric declared interest in involvement in structuring the financing, as well as a potential designer and supplier of various packages, including turbine hall equipment, compressors, transformers and others.
