SAFETY STRATEGY

The safety criteria adopted in the Belene NPP project are fully in accordance with the strictest modern European requirements formulated as European Utility Requirements for LWR Nuclear Power Plants and presented in EUR Specification Document:

The following objectives for limited impact have been set up for the plant design conditions:
- No intervention should be necessary at a distance greater than 800 m from the reactor in case of a design basis accidents.
- Extremely limited economic consequences off the site of the power plant in case of a design basis accidents.
Objectives for limited impact in case of beyond design conditions and severe accidents are:
- Lack of emergency protection actions at a distance greater than 800 m from the reactor
- Lack of delayed activities in whatever moment outside the area with a radius of 3 km from the reactor
- Lack of long-term activities at distance bigger than 800 m from the reactor
- Limited economic consequences outside the site area
