Public attitudes regarding the development of nuclear energy in Bulgaria

Half of those who support the development of nuclear energy in Bulgaria are of the opinion that safety is the most important factor in technology for this type of energy. At the same time, half of the respondents (50%) agree with the statement that when in compliance with the established safety standards, nuclear energy is safe for human health:
Next in terms of factors that stands out is the environmental friendliness - for 24% of respondents it is most important. After that is the price of electricity, which is important for every fifth respondent.
More than half (54%) of respondents agree with the statement that nuclear energy does not emit harmful emissions into the atmosphere compared to sources such as oil and coal. Demographic breakdowns show that those living in the capital (71%) and people with higher education strongly support this statement.
A large portion of respondents - over three quarters, are in agreement with the statement that nuclear energy creates new jobs and supports local and national economic development of the country. Nearly two-thirds (65%) also agree with the statement that nuclear energy gives impetus to the development of high technology.
Among most adult Bulgarians (52%) the opinion dominates that the production of nuclear energy is cheaper than the production of electricity from other sources. Slightly more (55%) agree that in the long run nuclear energy is more competitive than energy produced from other types of generating capacity.
Also, 53 percent of respondents agree that "nuclear energy is a basic power that facilitates the regulation of the energy system and ensures security of electricity supply." More than two thirds are in solidarity with the thesis that nuclear energy ensures uninterrupted supply of electricity.
